How We Verify Contractor Licensing Information

Every fact on this site comes from an official government source, and we link to that source so you can check it yourself.

Official sources only

We use state licensing boards and regulatory agencies, official state statutes and regulations, official government license searches, and city or county licensing offices. We don’t use other guides, directories, or AI-generated summaries as evidence.

Every fact is linked

Each state page lists its official sources at the bottom, and requirements such as fees and experience link to the agency page they came from. If official sources disagree, we follow the licensing board’s own page.

Re-verified at least every 90 days

We recheck every state at least every 90 days, and sooner when we hear about a change in the law. The “Last verified” date on each page changes only when we have actually rechecked its sources.

Unconfirmed facts are left out

If we can’t confirm a fact on an official page, we leave it off the site until we can. That’s why some pages say “check with the issuing board” instead of giving a number.
